Endovenous closure, sometimes called vein sealing or vein ablation, treats faulty superficial veins that allow blood to flow backward and pool in the legs. Closing the diseased vein can redirect blood through healthier veins and reduce symptoms.

Techniques may include radiofrequency ablation, laser ablation, medical adhesive closure, or other endovenous treatments depending on anatomy and patient needs.

Symptoms patients may notice

  • Leg heaviness, aching, fatigue, burning, itching, or swelling
  • Visible varicose veins
  • Symptoms worse with standing and improved by elevation
  • Skin discoloration or venous ulcer risk

How we evaluate this condition

  • Venous ultrasound to document reflux and map target veins
  • Symptom and compression-therapy review
  • Assessment of DVT history, skin changes, and procedural candidacy

Treatment and care options

  • Radiofrequency or laser ablation when appropriate
  • Medical adhesive closure in selected veins
  • Compression therapy before and after treatment as advised
  • Follow-up ultrasound or symptom monitoring after closure
